Baja 1000

Birth of a desert legend
The story

Dust, roaring engines and endless desert trails. Since the 1960s, the Baja 1000 has embodied the spirit of motorcycle adventure. More than a race, it represents freedom, endurance and a passion for riding. Over the years, this legendary event has inspired generations of riders and helped shape off-road motorcycle culture.

The origins of the Baja 1000

The story began in 1962. American riders Dave Ekins and Bill Robertson Jr. crossed the Baja California peninsula on Honda CL72 motorcycles, covering approximately 963 miles.

~40 hto ride the length of the peninsula, a feat that revealed the potential of the region for off-road racing.

Five years later, the first official Mexican 1000 took place. Organised by Ed Pearlman in 1967, it ran from Tijuana to La Paz and tested both riders and machines across challenging terrain.

More than a race

A test of endurance

The Baja 1000 quickly became more than a competition. Its remote landscapes and demanding routes attracted adventurous riders from around the world. Unlike circuit racing, desert racing asks for something else:

EnduranceNavigationAdaptability
Every finish counts

In the desert, simply reaching the finish line is a significant achievement. Many riders still see it that way today.

Malcolm Smith

A desert icon

Malcolm Smith became one of the most influential figures in this world. After his win in 1967, he went on to appear in On Any Sunday in 1971, alongside Steve McQueen and other riders.

The documentary introduced motorcycle culture to a much wider audience, and its images of dirt bikes and open landscapes captured the freedom of riding in the 1970s. Discover our article on On Any Sunday.

The Desert Pant

The Desert Pant perfectly illustrates this connection. Inspired by vintage leather racing trousers from the 1970s, it pays tribute to the early days of off-road riding. Its design combines a vintage aesthetic with modern protective features, and reflects Age of Glory’s approach to motorcycle clothing: celebrating the past while meeting today’s needs.

The Elsinore LS Tee offers another connection to this culture. Its long-sleeved design fits naturally into the world of vintage motocross and desert adventures. Whether worn in the workshop or during a weekend ride, it expresses a passion for motorcycles beyond the road.

Through these pieces, Age of Glory celebrates the spirit of the pioneers. The aim is not to recreate the past, but to reinterpret its most enduring values.
