Bikes of the month – April 2019
We decided to share with you, each month, bikes we particularly love and the men behind these builds. Not necessary the very last build – it could be, but the bikes we would love having in our garage to ride with. You may have seen some of them already, but perhaps you don’t know who was behind the build…
Here are the bikes we want to share with you this month:
1966 US Triumph 650 Thunderbird
Motomedication – UK
I spent nearly every evening and every weekend working solidly on the bike. From the day the donor bike arrived to when I first started the engine up in the Wasp Rickman Frame was 9 months to the day.
”I had always loved classic scramblers. My Dad came home from display flying at an air show a few years ago and had randomly bought a Rickman Metisse, I later learned why he snatched it up and that it was the ultimate historic scrambler. I was riding it on road and off road, I fell in love with it and nothing else compared. I had to have one of my own! So we decided we would build one.” Chelsea
What was your first bike?
My first bike was a 1977 Honda XL 250 (which never ran and I’m currently restoring, it will be my off-road bike) after that I bought a Honda CB 400 super four – I sold this for a lot more then what I paid for it, which funded (some of) the Rickman Build.
Your preferred stock bike (actual or old)? why?
I love classic bikes – they have soul.
Something funny / amazing / strange / epic experienced and related to a motorcycle?
On my first outing on my Rickman I went to a bike show where the Rickman Brothers where special guests. It was amazing to meet Don and Derek and have them admire my bike. They signed either sign of my fuel tank too.
Do you take inspiration out of the motorcycle industry (artists, music,…)
I love the feel of the motorcycle community. The fact that motorcycles would always go out of their way to help another motorcyclist if needed. It inspires me to be like this in life with people who don’t ride. Its just nice to be friendly, if you have a motorcycle you can bond instantly with a stranger, I love this.

If not a bike builder, what would have been your daily work?
I work as a PA to my Dad who runs and Architects practice, also working with my mum, we do the finance and admin side of things and my Dad and the boys in the office design dream homes – The Classic Architecture Company
“On Any sunday”, what does it means to you?
This is one of my favourite movies. I absolutely love it. It covers such a wonderful range of motorcycling across the world. Its educational and inspiring, it makes you want to get out and ride. I love the music, the desert racing and the end clip with Steve McQueen and his friends riding through the dunes. I’ve watched it countless times.

1970 Ducati 350 Scrambler
Wreckless Motorcycles – UK
It took 18 months to build the bike, but it wasn’t worked on every day
”The original idea came from when Ducati released their “new” Scrambler in 2015. I didn’t like it and to me it isn’t a Scrambler, so I wanted to build the Scrambler Ducati should have built (or at least, the Scrambler I wanted them to build)” Rick
What was your first bike?
My first bike was a Vespa
Your preferred stock bike (actual or old)? why?
My favorite bike of all time that I have owned is probably my Aprilia RSV1000R Factory 2005 model followed closely by a Bimota DB6 Delirio. The Aprilia is just a big comfortable rapid twin that can do it all. Favorite bike I haven’t owned would be the Ducati Desmocedici RR, because it was really the first time a modern MotoGP bike was created for the road and it just looks and sounds like a GP bike.
Something funny / amazing / strange / epic experienced and related to a motorcycle?
A couple of interesting facts about us: My collaborator on Wreckless and master mechanic, Iain, doesn’t ride bikes and we’ve customised the worlds worst motorcycle
Do you take inspiration out of the motorcycle industry (artists, music,…)
My inspiration comes from mainly the motorcycle industry and the people in it (racers/designers/owners). I’m interested in industrial design as well. I guess its really about the people who ride motorcycles that inspires me in what I do and what we create at Wreckless

If not a bike builder, what would have been your daily work?
Bike Building isn’t my daily work – I’m between jobs at the moment…
“On Any sunday”, what does it means to you?
“On Any Sunday” captures the spirit of riding motorcycles – you don’t have to be a racer to get it – riding is about freedom, rebelling, not conforming, expressing yourself, showing the finger to “normal” society

Hombrese Bikes – Germany
30 days of work
”We had the idea to take part in a few races but never had a suitable motorcycle. This was the first motivation for this new project. The timing was short and it was the biggest challenge because we started the project very late and worked on it only at the weekends and wanted to finish the bike for wheels and waves 2018 in France. We finally could participate to the Punks Peak and El Rollo race at wheels and waves in France 2018” Uwe
What was your first bike?
Honda Monkey
Your preferred stock bike (actual or old)? why?
The Kawasaki W650. why? I love the overall look and riding comfort of this bike and in particular the one I built. 😉I am also a big fan of Flat Track Bikes and their Look.
Something funny / amazing / strange / epic experienced and related to a motorcycle?
That’s difficult… Every ride on a motorcycle makes new experiences and funny moments. Every motorcycle custom project is a new big challenge. I have already met so many great people through my passion that I can say that this is probably the best thing I associate with motorcycles. Currently another big challenge is the flat track ride which I started recently. 😉
Two years ago, I put my girlfriend on one of my bikes. until then she had no driver’s license. After that ride, it was clear that she wants and needs the driver’s license and her own bike. It was clear that it can not be an original motorcycle. So I started a project for her. What can I say … The driver’s license was completed faster 😉 but some months later, she gets a very beautiful Honda FT 500…

Skate & Surf , and also old Cars.

Creative, accurate and punctual.
If not a bike builder, what would have been your daily work?
In addition to my time in the workshop, I am currently starting a new project with two friends that will soon be online. It’s an online shop for motorcycle parts… Stay tuned!

Chilling, short break, screwing, driving, the way is the destination, camping , and also NEW: Flat Tracking!
